and discover the other side
of Cape Town
The
Bo-Kaap a look at the picturesque
Malay Quarter and its dynamic museum. We discover the unique culture, lifestyle
and personality of the Cape Muslim community and their contribution to
South Africa's development.
The Townships and Cape Flats Seeking racial segregation, apartheid policies disrupted all non-white population groups, distorted both rural and urban development and ensured hopeless overcrowding. Few houses were built. Against all odds township life prevails. Langa is Cape Town's oldest formal black township. We visit the Chris Hani Literacy School. We drive through the well known areas of Guguletu, Nyanga and Crossroads. Mitchell's Plain is where many coloured people removed from District Six were moved to. We Also visit the Reconstruction and Development Programme where hundreds of squatters, with the help of state grants, are setting about building their own brick homes.
