Introduction
Brisbane
is Australia's third largest city and the capital of Queensland, 'The
Sunshine State'. Situated on Moreton Bay and straddling the Brisbane
River, it is a semi-tropical city with warm, clear winters and tropical
summers.
Halfway between the resort beach areas of the Gold Coast and
Sunshine Coast it is a playground for swimmers, surfers and sun-bathers.
Like any major city, Brisbane has all the facilities a visitor will need.

Brisbane
began its life as a penal colony and some of the relics of the early days
remain, the Old Windmill in the city centre is a reminder of those days.

Early colonial architecture is well represented in George St. and the City
Hall and the Treasury (now the Casino) and Old Customs House (now a
gallery museum) are fine examples.

The South Bank region holds much of Queensland's cultural history. Here
you will find the Art Gallery, the Queensland Museum, the State
Library, the Performing Arts Centre, a Maritime Museum and the South Bank
Butterfly House.
