Kimberley
Kimberley, the diamond capital of the world, was established in 1871 as a result of the goldrush. The site of the Kimberley Mine, commonly known as "The Big Hole", produced 14,5 million carats of diamonds before closure in 1914. The full-scale open-air museum has 48 reconstructed historical buildings that not only preserves the past, but recaptures the mining atmosphere of yesteryear.
