INTRODUCTION
Situated at the foot of the Wolkberg
Mountains, an attractive garden town where everything grows in abundance
due to the high rainfall and warm climate. Fruit orchids, flowers and tree
plantations add to the areas astounding green beauty. Tzaneen, surrounded
by enchanting places and scenic spots and many tourist destinations, such
as The Valley of the Elephants. It is the ideal spot from which to explore the area.

Haenertsberg
The capital of the area known
as the "Land of the Silver Mist", this charming little village lies
beitween Tzaneen and Pietersberg. What began as a "Gold Rush Town", it
is now an attractive place where some of the old workings from the gold rush can
still be seen.

O'Conner Memorial
At the end of the Woodbush
Forest Drive, where enormous blue gum trees were planted by O'Conner himself

Woodbush Forest
The largest area of indigenous
trees and plants in the Transvaal area, with over 40 species recorded.

Iron Crown Mountain
The highest Peak of the
Wolkberg Mountains, which can be reached by road or foot.

John Buchan Memorial
This famous Scot writer was
inspired to write his book, "Prester John" by the Magoebaskloof area
in which he lived. His memorial overlooks the great Ebenezer Dam.

Debengeni Waterfall
A spectacular waterfall tumbling into natural pools.

Commonwealth Plantation
Next to the Middelkop Tea
Estate, magnificent eucalyptus trees, planted in 1914 and dedicated to the
Commonwealth Forestry Commission in 1939 during their conference in South Africa
can be seen on this plantation.

Sapekoe Tea Estates
These extensive tea estates
were established in 1963. Tours and tea tasting are available.

River Capture Site
A site of ancient piracy, where
the Letaba River eroded through the hills and captured the headwaters of the
Mohlapitse.

Big Boabab The inside of this massive
gnarled tree, at the Sunland Nursery has been converted into a bar!!!!!! Driks
and snacks are available.

Modjadji Cycad Reserve
This reserve, situated on the
hillside, contains the largest concentration of a single species of cycad in the
world. A small museum in the reserve is dedicated to the ancestors of the Rain
Queen, who still live peacefully in protected isolation within the
"Jurassic Park-like" Reserve.

Tsonga Kraal Museum
Situated within the Hans
Merensky Nature Reserve, it is a cultural museum depicting the way of life and
culture of the Tsonga people.

Dap Naude Dam
A picturesque and scenic drive to the dam. A public picnic spot is available in beautiful surrounds. Although access and fishing is restricted to members only.

Ebenezer Dam
Beneath the Wolkberg Mountains, this beautiful Dam offers fishing, boating, sailing, strolls, picnics and peaceful sundowner cruises.

Mgoesbaskloof
A steep, winding, forested pass between Tzaneen and Pietersberg where spectacular viewpoints and shady picnic spots are available along the road.

Debengeni Waterfall
A spectacular waterfall tumbling into natural pools. A wonderful place to spend the day with the whole family, swimming, picnics and scenic walks.

Tzaneen Dam
A large dam on the outskirts of Tzaneen where boating and fishing are permitted.

Duiwelskloof Waterfalls and Picnic Spot
Swimming, picnics and hikes are allowed here.

Aventure Eiland Hot Springs Resort
A variety of swimming pools, slides and recreational facilities have been developed around these mineral hotsprings.
